Scale Barcodes

Barcodes that start with 20 and have a 13-digit length are reserved for scale barcodes. These are commonly used in delis, butcheries, and similar environments where the barcode includes both the item code and the weight or price.

1. Mark Items as Scale Items

Set items as Scale Items in:

Stock Main Form > Additional Info Tab

Tick the Scale Item checkbox.

This ensures the system treats the product as a scale-encoded item (with price/weight in the barcode).

2. Scale Barcode Options

Go to:

Invoice > Options > General Tab

Choose between:

5-Digit Price Barcode (Maximum price: R999.99)

6-Digit Price Barcode (Maximum price: R9,999.99)

5-Digit Price Barcode (Format: xxx.xx)

Structure (13 digits):

Section

Description

20

Bar flag (scale indicator, 2 digits)

4444

PLU (Product Lookup Code, 4 digits)

2

Check digit (1 digit)

15338

Total price encoded (5 digits)

6

Final check digit (1 digit)

Example: 2044442153356

To set it up:

Enter PLU (e.g., 4444) into the barcode field of the item.

The system will calculate the weight using:

Weight = Barcode Price ÷ Inclusive Selling Price

Example:

If barcode amount = R153.35 and inclusive price = R250,

then weight = 153.35 ÷ 250 = 0.6134 kg

6-Digit Price Barcode (Format: xxxx.xx)

Structure (13 digits):

Section

Description

20

Bar flag (scale indicator, 2 digits)

4444

PLU (Product Lookup Code, 4 digits)

153356

Total price encoded (6 digits)

6

Final check digit (1 digit)

The system calculates the weight as:

Total price embedded in barcode ÷ Inclusive selling price

✅ Tip: Use 6-digit if you regularly sell items priced over R999 or need finer granularity in pricing.

Adding a New Code to a Scale

To add a new item for use with a scale:

1. Mark the Item as a Scale Item

Go to Stock Main Form > Additional Info Tab

Tick the Scale Item checkbox.

2. Assign the PLU (Product Lookup Code)

Enter a unique PLU in the Barcode field.

This PLU will be embedded in the scale barcode (e.g., 4444 in 2044442153356).

3. Set the Inclusive Selling Price

Ensure the price is accurate, as it's used to calculate the weight from the embedded barcode price.

Exporting Scale Items

To add a new item for use with a scale:

1.Go to Company > Integrations >Teraoka Scale File Export

2.The system will generate a PLU.CSV file containing all items marked as Scale Items

3.Add the new scale codes by uploading the PLU.CSV file to your compatible scale device (e.g., Teraoka)

✅ Tip: Re-export the PLU.CSV file whenever you add new scale items or update prices.
